Most “won’t drain” or “won’t spin” complaints come down to a clogged pump filter or drain hose, or a load the machine’s sensors think is unsafe to spin.
What usually causes it
- The drain pump filter is clogged with lint, coins, or small items
- The drain hose is kinked or positioned wrong
- The load is unbalanced or too small to spin safely
- The lid or door isn’t fully closed and locked
What you can check yourself
- Locate and clean the drain pump filter (most front-loaders have an access panel low on the front)
- Check the drain hose for kinks and make sure it isn’t looped too high
- Redistribute the load evenly, or run it with a slightly larger load
- Make sure the door or lid is fully closed
When to call
If the filter’s clear, the hose is fine, and it still won’t drain or spin — or if it’s making a burning smell or a loud grinding noise — that’s a pump, motor, or belt issue. That’s a repair visit.
